Angel Cop

(The collection 1-6)

CARL's TAKE: <<<Three stars>>>

Summary - the Special Security Force is an agency with a license-to-kill in the name of stopping terrorism, namely a prominent group known as the Red May. But suddenly the SSF's goal has been changed from hunting to protecting the Red May as a group of pyshic-enhanced vigilantes start ripping the terrorist group apart. Now Red May's leader is the only one who can help the SSF expose government corruption that lead to the vigilantes' escape, and by protecting him the SSF becomes the next target. It gets worse yet when one of the vigilantes goes...well...vigilante, declaring open season on the SSF and anyone that stands in her way.

Impression - made by Manga Entertainment = extreme sexualized violence, but capable storytelling and animation.

Review - the story driving Angel Cop is actually pretty cool and sci-fi-ish. You have your super psychic powers, mad scientists and cyborgs, and a small group of elite humans pitted against all of this. This show seems to be a 6-part OVA, and all of the episodes are packed with action and intrigue. But, like with many Manga Entertainment releases, this one is plagued with the Big G, that is, Gratuitous material. Gratutious violence, gratuitous nudey, etc. Some people might like this stuff. But I much would have prefered they made this a more serious work and less something to catch peoples eyes.

VERDICT: something worth looking at for adults, especially those looking to see bare-breasted ladies dieing.
