Spriggan
The Movie
CARL's TAKE: <<<Three and a half stars>>>
Summary - Yuu, the high school age product of a U.S. super-soldier program, is an agent called a Spriggan whose job it is to keep rare alien artifacts from falling into the wrong hands. One such artifact has been found: a giant structure of unknown power buried deep within a Tibetan mountain referred to as Noah's Ark. But shortly after Yuu heads out to protect the ark and the team researching it he comes under fire. The Americans want the Ark for themselves and they have three of their most effective super-soldiers on the job, including a young 'Colonel' with awesome psychic power and a frightening agenda of his own.
Impression - an action-packed, visual thriller with rapid-fire plot to back it up.
Review - Yuu is the average-teenager Swarzenegger you can't help but root for. They give him some depth halfway through but in such a way that only us plot-seekers need pay any attention to it. The action is wickedly fast-paced and the animation never misses a beat. My only beef with the whole movie was its cop-out ending. But in this case the ending was the least important part - watching everything before is the real treat.
VERDICT: I saw this in the theatre and it grabbed me and dragged me around for an hour. It kicks ass and I recommend it highly.
