Tenchi Muyo: (Movie #2)

Daughter of Darkness

CARL's TAKE: <<<Two and a half stars>>>

Summary - The story starts out with a boy named Yosho (Tenchi's grandfather) on planet Jurai. It's during a festival and he makes the acquaintance of a mischevious elf. For some reason she starts to like him and decides not to get rid of him. But when she gets captured by Juraian soldiers, she harbors a grudge against Yosho, one that she eventually decides to take out on his grandson. She steals a strand of Tenchi's hair and uses the DNA to create a half-Tenchi clone. This girl shows up at the Misaki residence without any memories, other than that Tenchi is her 'father'. This naturally causes quite a stir, which destracts everyone from her true purpose - to kill Tenchi.

Impression - not as epic as the other two movies. More for fun.

Review - A lot of this movie seems to be based off the shock value of a hot teenage girl showing up, throwing her arms around Tenchi and exclaiming 'Daddy!'. You're left in the dark almost the entire movie as to what is really going on with her, and thus you spend more time spinning theories than following the 'each girl thinks Tenchi's been cheating' plot. Still, it illicited a few smiles and the end picked up the pace. Overall I kinda liked it.

VERDICT: if you don't care much for the Tenchi characters, this isn't for you. But fans should seriously consider seeing the movies in the order they were made (this one was a pretty good stepping stone to seeing Tenchi Forever).
